All Cats Are Legends

My dream catchers come from my Native American heritage and my love of cats. My family is of Eastern Woodlands Cree descent. I was taught to make dream catchers by a Cherokee grandmother and her daughter using the traditional way of making them from wood (willow, grapevine or honysuckle), sinew, feathers, and beads. Each one is completely unique and can never be repeated and each one is a little work of art and nature. May they bring good dreams to you and to your cat and they will be keep forever.

THE LEGEND OF THE DREAM CATCHER


Long ago in the ancient world of the Ojibwe Nation, the Clans were
all located in one general area of that place known as Turtle Island.
Spider Woman was kept busy weaving little dream catchers on the tops
of cradle boards to ensure the babies a peaceful slumber. Bad dreams
stuck into the spider web-like weaving, unable to go any further,
while the good dreams find their way through the openings to the
visions of the dreamer.

With the first rays of sunlight, the bad dreams would perish. When
the Ojibwe Nation dispersed to fill a prophecy, spider woman had a
difficult time making her journey to all those cradle boards, so the
mothers, sisters, and grandmothers took up the practice of weaving
the magical webs for the babies using willow hoops and sinew or
cordage made from plants.

The Bastet Cat Collection Necklaces by Susan M. Dern

These necklaces are named for our beautiful, wonderful cat Norwegian Forest Cat named Minou, a Canjun word for "cat". Following Hurricane Katrina, Minou was found swimming in toxic water. He was rescued and brought to a shelter in Maryland where he was treated for chemical damage to this fur and burns on the pads of his paws. When the shelter was unable to find his people, he was adopted out to us and has been loved and cared for ever since. In April, he will have been living happily with us for two years. Our collection is dedicated to all the rescued animals and their rescuers and all of the lost victims of Katrina who hopefully have found have found peace and new and loving homes. And to our friends, Jackie and Barry...we miss you!
